Teaming together to make a difference.
Our Motto
Who We Are
The Good Neighbor Program, Inc. was founded in 1999 with one simple mission — to serve God by serving our neighbors.
In his inauguration speech, President George W. Bush said, “Serve the Nation beginning with your neighbor.” And in Matthew 25:35 we are reminded, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me a drink.”
The President said it, and God commissioned it — so we do it.
The statistics often quoted about poverty in our community are not numbers; they are people. And thousands of them are children. We believe that if we open our eyes a little wider and tune our ears a little sharper, we can see and hear the needs of those around us. We can make a difference — not by relying on one or two organizations to meet the multitude of needs, but by each of us reaching out to one person in need.
Our Mission
To serve God and our community through compassionate action — to meet needs, heal hearts, and show love in practical ways.
This call to action is simple: act on every opportunity that comes your way. It might mean writing a letter, visiting a lonely widow, or adopting a family in need — not just at Christmas, but all year long.
The Good Neighbor Program was founded as a supportive hand to reach out and do just that.
Our Philosophy
Did you know that geese fly at speeds of 40 to 50 miles per hour? They travel in formation because as each bird flaps its wings, it creates an updraft for the bird behind it. Together, they can go 70% farther than when flying alone.
Let us fly like the geese.
When we work together, when we lift each other up, we accomplish more — and we reflect the unity and love that God calls us to share.
Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” We believe that by serving one another, we can help restore vision, purpose, and hope to those who need it most.
Our Legacy
Since our founding in 1999, The Good Neighbor Program has grown from a simple blanket drive into a movement of community compassion. We’ve distributed food to local families, organized toy and blanket drives, partnered with Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army, and led home makeovers for families in need.
We’ve raised funds for disaster victims, supported children battling illness, and shared warmth with the homeless on cold nights. Each effort — big or small — began with one neighbor choosing to act.
Our Founders
John and Dianne Garvis founded The Good Neighbor Program on faith, compassion, and the belief that small acts of kindness can change lives.
Dianne, a recording artist, author, and motivational speaker, has dedicated her life to encouraging others to serve. Together, John and Dianne have inspired countless individuals to live out the call to love their neighbors as themselves.
Our Heart
We believe that everyone has something to give. A prayer, a smile, a helping hand — every act of kindness is a reflection of God’s love at work in the world.
If each of us helps one person in need, we can make a difference.
Together, we can make a community whole.
The Good Neighbor Program — Teaming Together to Make a Difference.
In 2004, The Good Neighbor Program took on its first full home renovation — The Sutton Project — transforming the home of a disabled widow in Groveland. What began as a simple blanket drive became a mission of restoration, proving that with faith, teamwork, and compassion, an entire community can come together to rebuild both houses and hearts.
